Indian Meteorological Department had announced about an atmospheric depression over the southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal. This later intensified into Cyclone Mandous and now aims to make landfall somewhere between Mahabalipuram of Tamil Nadu and Sriharikota of Andhra Pradesh.
The cyclone intensified on Friday and caused rains in several places. Some of them include Chennai, Puducherry and Thirumala. Several organisations including educational ones were announced to remain closed for Friday. Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Kancheepuram as well as the entire Puducherry are on high alert. Fishermen from the region were told not to venture out into the sea and people were asked to stay indoors until it is essential.
National Disaster Response Force has also been kept on high alert to handle any possible incident.
